Let’s be honest: most email marketing out there is… meh.
It’s boring. Its robotic. It ends up in spam. And worst of all? It doesn’t get results.
But heres the truth: email is STILL one of the highest-ROI tools you’ve got when its done right.
Hi, Im Jeff Alley. I’m an email marketing specialist and copywriting pro for fitness and wellness brands. My job? Helping your words flex as hard as your workouts.
And today, I’m giving you the goods, real tips you can use to make your emails more fun, more effective, and less likely to get ghosted.
Why Email Marketing Still Matters
Sure, social media is flashy. But your email list? Thats your private VIP section. No algorithms. No shadow bans. Just direct access to the people who chose to hear from you.
Heres the kicker:
Email has an average ROI of $36 for every $1 spent. People check their inboxes 20+ times per day.
But only if your subject line doesn’t make them yawn.
Step 1: Write Subject Lines That Slap
Your subject line is the bouncer at the club. If its weak, no one gets in.
Tips:
— Use curiosity: You’re not gonna like this (but your clients will)
— Ask a question: Still sending emails that don’t get opened?
— Tease a benefit: 3 ways to boost open rates without touching your design
Keep it short and punchy ideally under 9 words.
Step 2: Sound Like a Human. Please.
No offense to robots, but your audience wants to hear YOU the coach, the guide, the expert. Write like you talk. Use contractions. Keep it casual.
Instead of this: Our comprehensive wellness program will increase your basal metabolic rate.
Try this: Want to burn more fat while binging Netflix? This’ll help.
Step 3: Avoid the Promotions Tab Trap
Heres how to dodge it:
— Avoid spammy words like FREE!!! or BUY NOW — Limit the number of links
— Use plain text where possible
— Personalize your emails
Step 4: Every Email Should Have a Point
Ask: What do I want them to do after reading this?
Make your CTA clear and simple: Book a call. Read a blog. Hit reply.
Don’t make them guess.
Step 5: Nurture Before You Pitch
Emails should warm people up before selling hard. Sample flow:
1. Welcome email
2. Value email
3. Story email
4. Soft pitch
5. Hard pitch
